The determination of joint debts of spouses is the most central dispute in marriage and family disputes. The latest judicial interpretation further clarifies the principle of joint signing and joint debt, emphasizing that debts incurred by both spouses through joint signatures or subsequent ratification by one spouse, representing a common intention, constitute joint debts of the spouses. For debts incurred by one spouse in their own name during the marriage for the daily needs of the family, if the creditor claims they are joint debts of the spouses, the people's court shall support such claims.

Regarding the division of real estate upon divorce, the new judicial interpretation improves the rules for handling property where one spouse made a down payment before marriage and both spouses jointly repay the loan after marriage. If one spouse signs a real estate sales contract before marriage, pays the down payment with personal property, and takes a bank loan, and after marriage both spouses use joint property to repay the loan, with the real estate registered under the name of the party who paid the down payment, upon divorce, the real estate shall be handled by agreement between the two parties.

Regarding child custody, the new regulations further implement the principle of best interests of the minor child. For children under two years old, they shall generally live with the mother. For children over eight years old, their true wishes shall be respected. When determining custody, the court will comprehensively consider factors such as the parents' ability to raise the child, living environment, and emotional bond with the child.

The divorce damages system has also developed. Beyond the traditional four grounds (bigamy, cohabitation, domestic violence, abuse/abandonment), the new rules address damages for concealing major illnesses and unauthorized disposal of significant marital property.

Regarding inheritance disputes, the new judicial interpretation refines the standards for determining the validity of wills. A printed will must have two or more witnesses present, and the testator and witnesses shall sign each page of the will, noting the year, month, and day. A will made in the form of audio or video recording must have two or more witnesses present, and the testator and witnesses shall record their names or images in the audio or video recording.
