Clerical Script Calligraphy Work 'Bee' Creation Notes

  刘刈

Tang Dynasty poet Luo Yin wrote a poem — 'Bees', which consists of four lines: Regardless of the flat ground or the mountain peaks, infinite scenery is all occupied; After collecting nectar from hundreds of flowers to make honey, for whom do they toil and for whom is it sweet? This poem mainly depicts the life of bees gathering nectar and making honey, dedicating their entire life without seeking fame or profit, and benefiting humanity. It is a poet's portrayal of the model of enduring hardship and silently contributing.

This calligraphy work draws on the first two lines of the poem as textual material, mainly because the diligent work of bees reflects our practice as lawyers! This spirit of tireless effort and perseverance is a true representation of the indomitable spirit displayed by lawyers in overcoming various difficulties and setbacks! At the same time, just as bees make honey from hundreds of flowers and reap the fruits of victory, it aptly reflects the pride and sense of achievement in a lawyer's work!

The choice to use the clerical script as a form of calligraphy is also related to the nature of a lawyer's work. The greatest characteristics of clerical script are steadiness, calmness, and roundness, which better highlight a lawyer's composure, calmness, and wisdom! Clerical script often uses square strokes, with variations in the speed and pressure of the brush, combining thickness and pauses, which aptly demonstrates a lawyer's ability to strategize and manage affairs. The strokes of clerical script have a wide range of line variations, creating an artistic sense of rhythm. The brushstrokes resembling silkworm heads and swallow tails rise and fall like waves, being both weighty and lively, dignified yet skillful, and in essence, soft yet strong! Isn't this a precise interpretation of a lawyer's personal charm? Clerical script hides the tip at the beginning and both hides and exposes at the end; especially the sweeping wave strokes, which conceal while revealing—doesn't this mirror the restrained sharpness characteristic of a lawyer's working style?

This book sincerely reveals the profound meaning embodied in the legal profession, which is noble, sacred, and great!
