The Eighth Lecture of the Zhiming Lecture Hall in 2019: Chatting About Those Things in Legal English.
Talent is historical; different times define different connotations of talent. Globalization characterizes the era China is in, determining the importance of cultivating talents in law and English. To better grasp the objective laws of legal talent development and effectively enhance the quality of our firm's staff, on the afternoon of August 29, 2019, Guangdong Zhiming Law Firm held a lecture titled "Chatting About Legal English."
The lecturer for this session was Chen Yihong, a legal assistant at our firm. Before entering the legal profession, Assistant Chen had years of extensive experience in English translation work and held a TEM-8 certificate, making him well-suited to explain this topic.
During the lecture, Assistant Chen shared insights on learning legal English and methodologies for English learning. He also carefully compiled many websites suitable for legal English study, analyzed the similarities and differences between legal English learning and general English learning, and highlighted the key points and difficulties of studying legal English. Using his own work experience as an example, he conveyed the importance of English learning for today's legal professionals. Starting with common legal terminology, he engaged in active interaction with the audience, who showed strong interest. Finally, Assistant Chen emphasized the need for comprehensive improvement in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English learning.
After the lecture, everyone humbly sought advice from Assistant Chen on their English learning issues, and he patiently answered all questions. The entire lecture was relaxed and enjoyable, and attendees gained a lot, expressing their hope for more such legal English lectures to enhance their English skills and meet the demands of the times.
