[3] Confidence and arrogance may seem like a single word difference, but they are worlds apart. Lawyer Wang vividly described what a confident lawyer is and what an arrogant lawyer is. The fundamental difference lies in the former truly possessing extraordinary skills, analyzing cases truthfully, introducing themselves without making guarantees or promises of victory. The latter, however, lacks knowledge, is unskilled, deficient in virtue, makes random promises, boasts, or habitually uses improper means to build connections, making "big talk" with guarantees and promises. It is evident that confident lawyers often provide practical and positive help to clients, while arrogant lawyers often yield unsatisfactory results, even reversing victory and defeat.
[4] Lawyer Wang not only spoke truthfully but also gave examples. He shared a "wave injury case" he handled in 2001. The audience perked up their ears, afraid of missing any highlights. Although the verdict was unsatisfactory, it showed that a professionally confident lawyer does not cater to clients unrealistically. Lawyer Wang devoted all his energy to the case itself, with unique litigation thinking and brilliant courtroom arguments, all highlighting his professional competence. Unfortunately, the court's judgment at the time was conventional and failed to flexibly apply laws and regulations. However, the case's astonishing nature led to coverage by many media outlets, causing a stir and even being included as a guiding case by the Supreme People's Court. Lawyer Wang emphasized that as lawyers, we should focus not on media hype but on the issues behind the case.
