"Scan, get free durian" hides a new scam routine behind it.

"Scan to get free durian" – have you seen such "sponsored" ads in your Moments? Some of these ads are genuine promotional offers from merchants, while others are traps set by criminals. Recently, the Cixi Public Security Bureau in Zhejiang uncovered a telecom fraud case, where suspects lured victims into fraudulent tasks under the guise of giving away free durians.
On April 22, over 50 elite police officers from Cixi conducted a coordinated arrest operation in Chongqing, Fujian, and Ningbo, capturing 28 suspects and freezing over 700,000 yuan in funds. The initial investigation revealed an涉案金额 of 38 million yuan.
Claiming a "free" durian led to a loss of over 30,000 yuan.
At around 7 p.m. on February 15, a citizen of Cixi City, Ashui (pseudonym), reported being scammed out of 3 yuan through a fake task scam. It turned out that Ashui saw a poster in her son's social media circle offering free durians, scanned the QR code on the poster, added the person as a friend, and was then pulled into a WeChat group.
To Ashui's surprise, the group was discussing fake tasks, not durians. Wasn't this supposed to be about getting free durians? How did she end up in a fake task group? Although a bit confused, Ashui quickly became intrigued by the "success reports" of fake tasks. Seeing the "real records" of group members, she was tempted. How do you do these tasks? As soon as she asked, a receptionist privately messaged her. Following the receptionist's instructions, Ashui downloaded another communication app and learned the details of the fake tasks. Initially cautious, she only tried small amounts. After a few attempts, she found the tasks simple and "earning money" fast, so she posted a "success report" in the group as required.
When the receptionist suggested larger amounts, Ashui agreed without hesitation. But this time, her principal and commission never arrived. "There might be a refund issue. Try another task, and it might work," the receptionist coaxed. Ashui tried again, but not only did she not get the commission, she also lost her principal. Faced with Ashui's doubts, the receptionist kept making excuses to lure her into more tasks. Realizing she had been scammed, Ashui immediately reported it to the police on her family's advice.
The author believes that such acts of fraud via telecommunications networks for illegal possession constitute fraud. Fake tasks are illegal and pose risks to personal property safety. Everyone must stay vigilant when it comes to personal identity information and property.
