Cultural tourism safety must not be relaxed, stay highly vigilant to protect lives
During the 2025 "May Day" short holiday, safety incidents such as helicopter crashes, rock collapses, and boat capsizes occurred within just five days, making cultural tourism travel safety prevention a top priority. As the saying goes, safety leaves no room for luck, and negligence can be fatal.
I. Administrative Issuances by Competent Authorities
On April 30, the Office of the State Council Work Safety Committee and the Ministry of Emergency Management arranged safety precautions for the "May Day" holiday. The meeting required ensuring the safety of public travel and tourism, safeguarding critical infrastructure, thoroughly inspecting risks in bridges, tunnels, and roadside slopes, strengthening patrols and monitoring during adverse weather and high traffic periods; rigorously implementing traffic safety, thoroughly addressing road traffic hazards, and strictly cracking down on violations such as "over-speeding, overloading, fatigue driving, and illegal cargo vehicle passenger transport"; ensuring tourism safety by thoroughly inspecting risks in cable cars, ropeways, and large amusement facilities, and reinforcing local supervision responsibilities for popular check-in spots and undeveloped scenic areas; strengthening safety guarantees for large events, preparing emergency responses, and enhancing on-site safety control to prevent stampedes and other accidents.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Safety Office reminds: During the Labor Day holiday, public travel demand is strong, with various promotions and celebrations concentrated. Major scenic spots, shopping malls, hotels, markets, and highways will see peak crowds and logistics, increasing safety risks in road transport, fire safety, cultural tourism, and other sectors. Safety risk warnings for the "May Day" period are as follows: Strengthen safety management of large amusement facilities and high-risk projects, conduct daily equipment inspections and maintenance, improve emergency plans, and develop safety measures; enhance safety warnings for undeveloped or unopened areas and wild waters; follow staff management and arrangements during activities, and cautiously choose high-risk tourism projects such as high-altitude, high-speed, and water activities; do not enter undeveloped or unopened areas lacking safety guarantees; choose regular travel agencies and resist "unreasonably low-cost tours" to ensure travel safety.
Second, acting willfully, who is to blame for self-inflicted risks?
On May 4, a couple visiting Mount Tai in Shandong climbed over a guardrail to take a shortcut, but slipped and fell into a crevice between cliffs. As the woman fell, the man tightly grabbed her feet, preventing a tragedy. Similar guardrail-climbing accidents are common, such as in 2024 when a tourist fell off a cliff while crossing a guardrail to take a photo. Bloody lessons never wake those who pretend to be asleep.

Ignoring safety, "Want to take a shortcut? You almost took a shortcut in life."
Third, what do you know about high-risk tourism projects such as high-altitude, high-speed, and water activities?
1. High-altitude activities
High-altitude activities include skydiving, bungee jumping, rock climbing, etc. These activities are conducted at high altitudes and carry high risks. Improper operation or inadequate safety measures may lead to serious personal injury.
2. High-speed activities
High-speed activities include roller coasters, go-karts, etc. These activities involve high speeds and carry high risks. Improper operation or inadequate safety measures may lead to serious personal injury.
3. Water activities
Water activities include surfing, rafting, sailing, etc. These activities are conducted on water and carry high risks. Sudden situations such as bad weather or strong currents may lead to serious personal injury.
4. Diving Activities
Diving activities take place on the seabed and carry high risks. Encountering dangerous factors such as underwater currents or marine life may lead to serious personal injury.
IV. Boat Capsizing Incident at the Hundred-Li Gallery Scenic Area in Bijie, Guizhou

At approximately 16:40 on May 4, a boat capsizing incident occurred at the Hundred-Li Gallery Scenic Area in Huawu Village, Xinren Township, Qianxi City, Bijie City, Guizhou Province. According to reports, the incident caused 84 people to fall into the water. So far, 83 people have been rescued and located, of whom 9 died despite medical treatment.
5. Safety Lawyer’s Reminder
Relax your body during travel, but never relax safety precautions:
1. Pay attention to heatstroke prevention and cooling. Prepare for heatstroke, lightning, and rain during trips, and do not go to undeveloped or unsecured areas lacking safety guarantees. Prepare sunshade and heatstroke prevention items and medications in advance, and replenish water promptly.
2. Enhance safety awareness. When driving or taking public transport for travel, fasten your seatbelt throughout the journey. When self-driving, check the vehicle's condition and avoid fatigued driving and drunk driving.
3. Strengthen safety in water-related activities. When taking sightseeing boats, wear a life jacket as required and do not board boats without necessary life-saving equipment. Wear a life jacket when participating in water activities and do not play in waters without safety guarantees. Carefully participate in water activities such as rowing, rafting, snorkeling, and deep diving, as well as high-risk tourism projects like high-altitude, high-speed, and adventure activities, and act according to your physical condition. Familiarize yourself with safety tips in advance, follow professional guidance, and do not engage in actions that may endanger yourself or others.
4. Participate cautiously and act within your limits. When engaging in high-risk tourism projects, choose suitable projects based on personal age and health conditions, participate under professional guidance, and equip safety gear to effectively reduce safety risks during the trip.
Accidents always strike unexpectedly. On life's journey, we cannot foresee every mishap. We must always keep safety awareness in mind, embed it in our thoughts, and apply it in our actions. Always stay vigilant about safety, so that when emergencies or special situations arise, we can handle them calmly and write a chapter of safety.
