How Much Do You Know About Work Safety Month?

On April 24, 2025, the Ministry of Emergency Management issued the notice for the 24th "Work Safety Month," with this year's theme being "Everyone Talks About Safety, Everyone Knows Emergency Response——Find Hidden Dangers Around You."

I. What is the Work Safety Month?

In April 1980, the State Council approved the establishment of the "Safety Month" system, deciding that starting that year, May of each year would be designated as "National Safety Month," during which safety activities would be carried out nationwide, safety inspections would be organized, and safety publicity and education would be conducted for all citizens. The main activities include thoroughly publicizing and implementing the major decisions and arrangements of the Party and the state on strengthening workplace safety, as well as laws and regulations; popularizing safety knowledge, strengthening safety awareness, promoting a safety culture, enhancing safety competence, and fostering a safety atmosphere.

II. What safety production months have there been over the years?

The first National Safety Month in 1980.

The second National Safety Month in 1981.

The third National Safety Month in 1982.

The fourth National Safety Month in 1983.

The 5th National Safety Month in 1984.

In 1991, the first Work Safety Week focused on safety as a benefit and raising employees' safety awareness.

The second Work Safety Week in 1992 aimed to create a favorable work safety environment for large and medium-sized state-owned enterprises and to raise work safety awareness across society.

The theme of the Third Work Safety Week in 1993: “Comply with rules and discipline, eliminate the three violations,” with the aim of controlling accidents.

The theme of the fourth Work Safety Week in 1994 was "Never Forget Safety, Cherish Life," with the aim of controlling accidents and carrying out work safety activities under the content of "Do no harm to yourself, do no harm to others, and be protected from harm by others."

The theme of the fifth Work Safety Week in 1995: “Eliminate Hidden Dangers and Ensure Safety”.

The theme of the sixth Work Safety Week in 1996: “Comply with rules and discipline, ensure safety.”

III. Who Is Safety Really For?

Which is a greater loss, losing face or losing your life? Safety is not for show; it is always for yourself. For those with a strong sense of responsibility, safety is the embodiment of happiness. When you are safe, your parents have one less thing to worry about. Some say that only those who truly treat safety as safety are complete individuals, because they understand that their health and well-being are the foundation of happiness. That is the deepest love for one’s wife and children, the fulfillment of duty to colleagues and fellow workers, and a contribution to the development of the enterprise. Those who truly treat safety as safety are wise, for when an accident really happens, everything will be gone from you.

As a manager in any organization, one must practice the "three stricts" and "three irons" to correct deviations, and combine currently effective workplace safety regulations with safety skills to guard against impending dangers.
