The annual college entrance examination has finally come to an end. The Criminal Investigation Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security has issued a reminder for candidates and parents to watch out for the following scams: ① 'early score checking' scam; ② 'additional enrollment quota, internal quota' scam; ③ 'subsidy' scam; ④ 'guidance for filling out college applications' scam; ⑤ 'forged admission notice' scam.
Case 1: Falsely claiming suspected cheating, but actually a scam message
On June 9, the police in Tongxiang, Zhejiang issued an urgent alert. The notice stated that recently some citizens reported receiving a text message from the [Provincial Department of Education, Office of Admissions for Regular Higher Education Institutions]. The message claimed that in the playback video of the unified entrance examination for regular higher education institutions, monitoring showed that they had [suspected cheating] behavior, and they were required to call the admissions office of the Provincial Department of Education.
In response, the Tongxiang police remind: This is a typical SMS scam! If you receive a call or text from the admissions office claiming that a student has engaged in cheating, please contact the school they are attending immediately to verify the authenticity of the information! Do not trust blindly, especially if you are asked to pay fees to delete cheating videos, pay a deposit, or transfer money to a so-called safe account, as these are all scams!
According to the WeChat public account 'Xiamen Recruitment & Examination', regarding similar text messages received by college entrance examination candidates, the Municipal Education and Recruitment Center responded that cheating violations in the college entrance examination will not be notified through informal channels such as text messages, phone calls, or links. If there are cheating violations during the college entrance examination, they will be issued in the form of official documents after multiple verifications following the conclusion of the exam.
Case 2: Believing in extra points for the college entrance exam, parents were scammed out of one million yuan
Just a few days ago, another college entrance exam fraud case disclosed by the People's Court of Rui'an City, Zhejiang Province, also drew attention.
"Donating to the school can earn extra points" "Sending gifts and greetings to get closer to the school"... The defendant Zhou, by forging WeChat chat records, Ministry of Education enrollment approval forms, and other documents, created the illusion that a student was admitted to Zhejiang University, and defrauded the student's parents of more than 1.3 million yuan.
After trial, the People's Court of Rui'an City held that the defendant Zhou, with the purpose of illegal possession, used the methods of fabricating facts and concealing the truth to defraud others of property, with the amount being particularly huge, constituting the crime of fraud. The court sentenced the defendant Zhou to eight years and nine months in prison and imposed a fine of 90,000 yuan.

All along, the college entrance examination has not only been the first step for many children to realize their dreams, but also the final test after years of studying, and it deeply concerns parents. It can be said to be an exam that attracts everyone's attention, and some even regard it as a 'life-determining exam.' The author, however, believes it is not that serious, but it is still undeniable that the college entrance examination can change a person's life. Even if it is not decisive, it is at least an important turning point. Therefore, it is understandable that students and parents attach great importance to it, but they must not let nervousness cloud their judgment, as disorderly actions can provide opportunities for fraudsters.
Fraud techniques are indeed becoming more and more diverse. Scammers are after money, but what kind of mindset do parents have, like in Case 2, where they pay money to get connections to boost their child's scores? Although everyone has selfish motives, there are things that can be done and things that cannot. While the initial intention to help children get into a good university is good, I also advise parents not to take the wrong path for short-term benefits. Whether it is boosting scores, altering information, or even impersonation, we have seen and heard of many exposed cases in the news. If you want to keep something secret, you should not do it in the first place. After all, there is no wall in the world that does not leak, so do not ruin your and your child's life.
