Case review
In the early hours of August 2nd at 1 a.m., Xie Minghao Studio posted a late-night statement, filing a real-name report accusing JJ Lin and Wilber Pan of drug use. Xie Minghao Studio also tagged the official accounts of Ping'an Beijing Chaoyang and China Anti-Drug Online.
 
In the screenshot of the post from Xie Minghao's studio, the key statement is: “We request the police to conduct drug tests on Lin Junjie and Pan Weibo. If the results are clean, our side is willing to bear legal responsibility!”
 
Another Weibo post stated: “I am reporting singers Lin Junjie and Wilber Pan for criminal activities including drug use and rape of underage girls together with Kris Wu. I request the police to file a case and investigate!” Below it, the post added: “You can’t hide from this.”
 
On the evening of August 2, JJ Lin's studio issued a lawyer's letter, listing the names of a series of gossip-loving netizens suspected of insult and defamation. In addition, it separately mentioned Xie Minghao's studio, claiming that Xie Minghao ignored the formal warning after JJ Lin's studio issued its first statement and continued to publish defamatory content against JJ Lin, constituting a serious infringement on JJ Lin's reputation!
 
Subsequently, Will Pan issued a statement through his lawyer, stating that Xie Minghao and other users were spreading rumors and publishing false content, damaging Will Pan's reputation, and demanding that they stop the infringement. Will Pan considered the content published by Xie Minghao as malicious defamation, and would protect his rights through legal means, pursuing accountability to the end without leniency.

"Criminal Law of the People's Republic of China" Article 246 [Crime of Insult] [Crime of Defamation]
Whoever publicly insults another person by violence or other methods, or fabricates facts to defame another person, if the circumstances are serious, shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not more than three years, criminal detention, public surveillance, or deprivation of political rights.
 
Public Security Administration Punishments Law Article 72
Anyone who commits any of the following acts shall be detained for not less than 10 days but not more than 15 days and may also be fined not more than 2,000 yuan; if the circumstances are relatively minor, he shall be detained for not more than 5 days or be fined not more than 500 yuan:
(1) Unlawfully possessing less than 200 grams of opium, less than 10 grams of heroin or methamphetamine, or other small amounts of drugs;
(2) Providing drugs to others;
(3) Ingesting or injecting drugs;
(4) Coercing or deceiving medical personnel into prescribing narcotic or psychotropic drugs.

After rounds of revelations and rebuttals, the curiosity of onlookers has only grown. At present, there are only two possibilities. First, if Xie Minghao's revelations are true and Lin Junjie and Pan Weibo indeed used drugs, then their drug use alone violates Article 72 of the Public Security Administration Punishments Law. Second, if Xie Minghao's revelations are false and Lin Junjie and Pan Weibo never used drugs, then Xie Minghao may be guilty of defamation under Article 246 of the Criminal Law. Clearly, with the situation escalating to such a degree, one side will inevitably pay a heavy price.
 
If it is the first scenario, Xie Minghao seized the opportunity presented by the Wu Yifan incident. Just as the public was lamenting that “the entertainment industry is truly chaotic,” he took the chance to expose the illegal acts of two more top-tier idols. By riding the wave of online public opinion, he pushed these disgraced stars with criminal records into the abyss, while simultaneously elevating his own fame—truly “ridding the people of a scourge while advancing himself.” Of course, referencing the earlier drug cases of Kai Ko and Zhang Mo, the careers of Lin Junjie and Will Pan would also come to an end here.
 
If it is the second scenario, then Xie Minghao, this "D-list actor," is truly stopping at nothing to gain attention. After all, the influence of Lin Junjie and Pan Weibo is there for all to see—they can make waves in this industry. If the result is spreading rumors and causing trouble, not only will the fans not accept it, but the law will not either. Words are powerful, and before any solid evidence has emerged, the reputations of Lin Junjie and Pan Weibo have already suffered greatly. Fans withdrawing their support, collaborations being suspended, contracts being terminated—these consequences all have a huge impact on artists. Even if they are proven innocent in the future, the losses during this period cannot be underestimated. If the two of them do provide drug test reports in the future proving they never used drugs, then Xie Minghao's "confident assertions" during this time will likely come back to hit him hard. Not only that, Xie Minghao's path to stardom will not only fail to take off, but he will also be cut short by suspected defamation—truly a case of gaining nothing while losing everything.
 
Regardless of which scenario occurs, it will be a devastating blow to any artist. As celebrities, they are watched by countless eyes both inside and outside the industry. They should shine like stars, set good examples, and illuminate others with their brilliance. Unfortunately, today's stars do not shoulder their responsibilities or lead by example, and the entertainment industry has become a source of gossip and amusement for the public. But it should not be this way.
