Case review
On January 28, just as everyone was preparing to celebrate the New Year, the latest big news in the entertainment industry finally landed.
Angelababy and Huang Xiaoming posted to officially announce their divorce, with the statement being identical: "Grateful for the past, we will still be family in the future."
It is reported that the two got their marriage certificate in May 2015 and held a wedding in October. In 2017, Baby gave birth to their son, Little Sponge. After more than six years of marriage, the couple was once very sweet but also faced constant rumors of marital discord. In the end, they officially announced their divorce.
Although rumors of their divorce have circulated more than once, netizens seem to have grown accustomed to it, but this official announcement still sparked heated discussions among gossipers, with the most notable being their statement that "they will remain family in the future." What does that mean?
Article 1084 of the Civil Code
The relationship between parents and children shall not be eliminated by the divorce of the parents. After divorce, whether the children are directly raised by the father or the mother, they remain the children of both parents.
After divorce, parents still have the rights and obligations to raise, educate, and protect their children.
After divorce, children under the age of two shall be raised by the mother as a principle. For children over the age of two, if the parents fail to reach an agreement on custody, the people's court shall make a judgment based on the specific circumstances of both parties and in accordance with the principle of best interests of the minor child. For children who have reached the age of eight, their true wishes shall be respected.

In fact, regarding the custody of the child, the statements from Angelababy and Huang Xiaoming's studios have already mentioned that "they will jointly raise the child and accompany the child's growth in the future." That is to say, their divorce does not affect their relationship with the child, nor does it affect their custody of the child. From a legal perspective, even if a couple divorces, the law ensures the protection of the child's interests.
According to the provisions of the Civil Code mentioned above, after divorce, parents must still fulfill their obligations to their children and can continue to enjoy their rights. Therefore, regardless of whether Huang Xiaoming and Yang Ying's child "Little Sponge" lives with Huang Xiaoming or Yang Ying, the other party has the rights and obligations of a parent, which is beyond doubt. In other words, Huang Xiaoming will always be the child's father, and Yang Ying will always be the child's mother, which also confirms their statement that "we will still be family in the future."
