Not long ago, on the G74 passenger train from Guiyang North to Beijing West, a police officer received a report from a passenger that two women in the adjacent seats were holding a baby who kept crying. The baby was about two to three months old, and the two women only fed the baby formula, raising suspicion that something was wrong.

 
 

The train police and crew approached to investigate. One of the women was younger, the other older, and they did not seem familiar with each other. Because they hesitated in their answers and even gave different dates for the child's father's birthday, the police became suspicious and reported the situation to the Beijing West Station police. When the train arrived at Beijing West Station, officers were already waiting on the platform. When the police asked the middle-aged woman again, "Where did the child come from?" she changed her story, saying she had "found it by the roadside."

 
 

Investigation revealed that the middle-aged woman, surnamed Li, was a former obstetrician who, after retirement, was hired as the head of obstetrics at a private hospital in Guizhou Province. On May 17 of this year, while performing an illegal induced abortion on a woman, the aborted male fetus showed signs of life, but Li did not inform the mother that the baby was alive. Instead, she secretly took the baby home to care for it.

Because her son and daughter-in-law were unable to have children, Li observed that the baby was developing normally in early August and decided to take the train back to her hometown to raise the child herself. To avoid arousing suspicion during the journey, Li specifically hired a young woman, surnamed Zhang, to accompany her for part of the trip.

Currently, Li has been arrested by the Beijing Railway Transport Procuratorate on suspicion of child abduction. The abducted baby has been sent to a welfare home.

A child carries not only the continuation of bloodline but also the catalyst for a family's happiness. Abducting a child not only destroys the integrity of the original family but also leads to many other vicious criminal acts, such as organizing begging and trafficking organs. In this case, Li, as the director of obstetrics and gynecology, her hands were the first point of contact bringing the child into this world, and she bore the responsibility of an angel in white. Although the child's mother intended to induce labor, this does not constitute a reason for the doctor to arbitrarily dispose of the child.
 
Furthermore, this child, who was unexpectedly "saved" and survived, has been sent to a welfare home. This unfortunate child was abandoned by his biological mother before birth and was abducted by someone with ulterior motives after birth, making it difficult for him to ever find family happiness again. This case inevitably prompts people to think: although giving birth is a woman's right, should relevant laws be enacted to strictly restrict late-term induced labor to prevent such tragedies from recurring?
