On the 19th, actress Jiang Mengjie posted a lengthy message on Weibo, revealing that years ago she was secretly filmed up her skirt in a busy downtown area, and the video was widely circulated online. Someone even used the video to threaten and extort her, sending emails containing screenshots of the secretly filmed video to her manager, business partners, and people at film and television companies, claiming they would ruin the rest of her life.

 
 

Jiang Mengjie stated in her lengthy post: “As a public figure, perhaps by speaking out I can draw more attention to this kind of malicious incident. I hope friends who have suffered similar harm will not be afraid and will not feel ashamed to fight back. Being secretly photographed is not our fault, and our lives should not be affected by such things. Those who truly deserve to be condemned and subjected to legal and social sanctions are the people who maliciously secretly photograph others, those who edit and spread the photos, and those who extort and blackmail for personal gain in violation of the law.”

Anyone who commits any of the following acts shall be detained for up to five days or fined up to 500 yuan; if the circumstances are serious, they shall be detained for between five and ten days and may also be fined up to 500 yuan:
