Many netizens said they felt dizzy after drinking it. Someone asked: "Does drinking coffee count as drunk driving?"

In response, Luckin's official mini-program customer service replied: The alcohol content of the Sauce-Flavored Latte is below 0.5%, but it is not recommended for minors, pregnant women, drivers, or those allergic to alcohol.

A staff member from the Legal Department of the Beijing Traffic Management Bureau stated that consumers should not drive after consuming alcoholic beverages, as a blood alcohol content exceeding 20 mg/100 ml is considered drunk driving.

With the alcohol content of Luckin Coffee's Sauce-Flavored Latte below 0.5%, will the blood alcohol content of consumers exceed the safe limit of 20 mg/100 ml after drinking it?

In response, the aforementioned staff member stated that it cannot be simply calculated based on the alcohol content in beverages. "The food you eat may itself contain alcohol, and these ethanol-containing drinks and foods can further increase the alcohol level in your blood. Moreover, everyone's physical condition is different, and the absorption of alcohol varies from person to person. Therefore, it cannot be simply converted based on the alcohol content in beverages."

The Road Traffic Safety Law of the People's Republic of China
Article 91
A fine of 1,000 to 2,000 yuan for drunk driving, 12 demerit points on the driver's license, and a six-month suspension of the driver's license; for a second offense of drunk driving, 10 days of detention and a fine of 1,000 to 2,000 yuan, along with revocation of the motor vehicle driver's license.

[1] The author's perspective
In daily life, everyone knows the difference between drunk driving and driving under the influence, but they believe that as long as the amount of alcohol consumed is low enough, they will not cross the legal red line. However, this is not the case. As mentioned above, everyone's physical condition is different, and the changes produced by food also vary. Therefore, beverages with seemingly low alcohol content may actually cause symptoms such as dizziness or imbalance. If one happens to be driving at that time, it could easily lead to an accident, resulting in other criminal acts. Thus, it is not simply a matter of looking at the alcohol content to determine whether it is safe to drive after drinking. The author suggests that once you have consumed any alcoholic beverage, you should never drive. It's better to be safe than sorry, and this kind of harmful crime that endangers both oneself and others must be nipped in the bud.
