The highly watched case of Yu Huaying kidnapping 11 children has finally received a court verdict. On September 18, the Guiyang Intermediate People's Court sentenced Yu Huaying in the first instance for the crime of child trafficking, deeming the circumstances particularly serious and the impact particularly恶劣; the court sentenced Yu Huaying to death in the first trial and deprived her of political rights for life.

Case review
On September 18, the Guiyang Intermediate People's Court publicly pronounced the verdict in the case of the defendant Yu Huaying for the crime of trafficking children. The defendant Yu Huaying was sentenced to death for the crime of trafficking children, deprived of political rights for life, and had all personal property confiscated.
After investigation and trial, it was found that the defendant Yu Huaying, from 1993 to 1996, together with Gong Mouliang (deceased), for the purpose of making illegal profits, roamed around places such as Guizhou Province and Chongqing City, selecting suitable children to abduct. After succeeding, the two took the abducted children to Handan City, Hebei Province, and through introductions by Wang Moufu (elsewhere) and Yang Moulan (elsewhere), sought buyers to trade the children and profit from this. During this period, they abducted a total of 11 children.
The Guiyang Intermediate People's Court believes that the defendant Yu Huaying, in order to obtain illegal benefits, repeatedly trafficked children. Her actions have constituted the crime of child trafficking, with particularly serious circumstances and extremely great social harm, and should be severely punished. Therefore, the above judgment was made.
The defendant Yu Huaying stated in court that she would appeal.

Article 240 [Crime of Abducting and Trafficking Women and Children]
Whoever abducts and traffics in women or children shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not less than five years but not more than ten years and shall also be fined; under any of the following circumstances, the offender shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not less than ten years or life imprisonment, and shall also be fined or have property confiscated; if the circumstances are especially serious, the offender shall be sentenced to death and have property confiscated:
(1) Being a ringleader of a gang engaged in abducting and trafficking in women or children;
(2) Abducting and trafficking in three or more women or children;
(3) Raping the abducted woman;
(4) Enticing or forcing the abducted woman into prostitution, or selling the abducted woman to another person to force her into prostitution;
(5) Using violence, coercion, or anesthetic methods to abduct women or children for the purpose of selling them;
(6) Stealing infants or young children for the purpose of selling them;
(7) Causing serious injury, death, or other severe consequences to the trafficked women, children, or their relatives;
(8) Selling women or children abroad. Trafficking in women or children refers to any act of abducting, kidnapping, buying, selling, transporting, or transiting women or children for the purpose of selling them.

Child abduction refers to acts in which minors are illegally abducted, kidnapped, adopted, or deceived, resulting in them being forced to leave their legal guardians or lose their legal guardians. Child abduction incidents are usually accompanied by physical harm, psychological trauma, and family breakdown, bringing great pain and distress to both children and families. For families, child abduction means family breakdown and suffering. Parents who lose their children experience a huge emotional gap and endless grief. Many families consequently break apart, familial relationships are severed, and it can even lead to family members committing suicide. For society, child abduction signifies the deterioration of social morality and law. Children are the future of society, and their safety and health are related to the stability and harmony of the entire society. If child abduction incidents are not effectively curbed and punished, it will lead to social disorder and chaos.
Therefore, parents should strengthen education and awareness of protection for children, teaching them to stay away from strangers, not to trust strangers easily, not to get into cars or go to strangers' homes, and not to eat food given by strangers. Schools and society should strengthen safety education, enhancing children's safety awareness and self-protection abilities. Public security authorities should strengthen efforts to combat and prevent cases of children being abducted, increase the punishment for crimes such as child trafficking, and severely punish offenders who commit crimes against regulations.
