At 2:30 p.m. on August 28, 2023, it was raining in Yuyao, Ningbo, Zhejiang. Ms. Jiang, wearing a raincoat, was carefully riding her electric bike to work. As she reached the middle of an intersection, she suddenly felt a splash of water surging from behind. Even though she was “fully armored,” she was instantly drenched to the bone. Ms. Jiang was furious. She recalled that at that moment, a “curtain of water” blocked her vision, plunging everything into darkness. “For a few seconds, I couldn’t see anything!” When her vision returned, she discovered that the “culprit” was a white car.

For drivers, if water is splashed maliciously, the severity of the violation will be greater. In addition, in many cases, the targets of splashing are not only pedestrians but also other vehicles. Water splashed by a high-speed vehicle can cover the entire windshield of the car behind, making it very easy to cause rear-end collisions. In such a situation, if an accident occurs, the vehicle that splashed the water will bear full responsibility. Therefore, in extreme weather conditions, for the sake of both oneself and others, one should drive more carefully.
