Fighting over emotional dispute, lawyer defends intentional injury case resulting in suspended sentence

The defendant Zhao, a post-80s individual, due to an emotional dispute, called several friends to lure the victim to a food stall and assaulted him. Forensic examination confirmed the victim suffered severe injuries, and the court initiated a public prosecution against Zhao for intentional injury. Director Wang Tengfeng of our firm accepted the client's entrustment and appeared in court for defense. Lawyer Wang argued to the court: the defendant was a first-time offender, showed good attitude after surrendering, and had already compensated the victim according to the settlement agreement. The harmful act was driven by youth and impulsive emotions from the dispute. Ultimately, the court did not adopt the prosecution's sentencing recommendation of three to five years' imprisonment, deeming it too harsh. Instead, it partially accepted the lawyer's defense arguments, sentencing the defendant to three years' imprisonment with a three-year probation.
