Guangdong Lawyers Association: The 2017 Annual Work Summary Meeting of the Economic Crime Defense Committee of the Provincial Lawyers Association was held in Guangzhou
On the morning of January 28, 2018, the Economic Crime Defense Committee of the Provincial Lawyers Association held its 2017 annual work summary meeting in Guangzhou. A total of 18 people attended the meeting, including Committee Director Nan Fang, Deputy Directors Chen Yongzhong, Zhang Jingzhong, and Ouyang Yi, Secretary-General Wu Zhijian, and some committee members. Wang Bo, Vice President of the Provincial Lawyers Association, attended the meeting, and Wang Tengfeng, Deputy Supervisor, sat in on the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Director Nan Fang.
At the meeting, Director Nan Fang delivered a detailed and comprehensive summary of the Economic Crime Defense Professional Committee’s team building, completion of major tasks, innovative highlights, existing problems, and improvement measures for 2017. In 2017, in addition to actively completing planned tasks such as the research and development of the new product “Criminal Accusation Business,” hosting the “Economic Defense Guangdong Tour • Lecture Circuit” and the “Intellectual Property Crime Cases Forum,” completing the annual observation report, and conducting the selection of the Top Ten Typical Cases, the Committee also proactively carried out meaningful and valuable activities beyond the plan, such as conducting research on “New Products for Criminal Legal Business,” hosting the “Criminal Reporting Lawyer Practice Salon,” a special lecture on “Exclusion of Illegal Evidence,” and a special meeting to study the spirit of the National Lawyers Association’s seminar on “Criminal Defense and Lawyer System Reform.” In addition, members of the Committee were invited on multiple occasions to provide specialized training for anti-drug police officers in our province’s public security system and young lawyers in Shenzhen, all of which achieved positive social effects.
All attending committee members engaged in a lively discussion on how to effectively carry out the various tasks of the Economic Crime Defense Committee for the year 2018, actively offering suggestions and contributing ideas. In particular, regarding how to increase revenue and reduce expenditure to advance all tasks, how to integrate the "Economic Defense Guangdong Tour • Lecture Circuit" with full coverage of criminal defense for training purposes, and how to effectively conduct research on "new criminal law practice products," the attending members put forward many constructive opinions and suggestions. During the meeting, the committee also elected four outstanding members through a democratic voting process.
In his concluding remarks, Vice President Wang Bo extended warm congratulations to the four outstanding committee members and spoke highly of the Economic Crime Defense Committee’s work in 2017. He noted that in 2017, the committee not only performed its duties effectively, organized its efforts well, and achieved outstanding results, delivering a brilliant and complete response and report card, but also established a sound working mechanism that laid a solid foundation for future work. He expressed hope that the Economic Crime Defense Committee would develop more mature working approaches in 2018 and make even greater progress.
Finally, Deputy Supervisor Wang Tengfeng delivered the supervisory opinion, stating that the meeting was procedurally compliant, substantive in content, and effective in outcome. He also noted that the Economic Crime Defense Committee demonstrated strong organizational capabilities, active engagement, fruitful results, and a warm team spirit in its work throughout 2017.
In the new year, under the leadership of the Provincial Lawyers Association, the Economic Crime Defense Special Committee will continue to work hard, actively carry out various tasks, further expand its influence, and lead lawyers across the province to open new horizons in economic crime defense practice.
