On September 11, 2017, the opening ceremony of the 8th Young Lawyers (Commercial Crime Direction) Criminal Defense Skills Training Program of the Shenzhen Lawyers Association was held at Southwest University of Political Science and Law, marking the start of a week-long learning journey. Liu Linhong, Secretary of the Party General Branch of the Continuing Education College of Southwest University of Political Science and Law; Yang Xiao and Wang Tengfeng, Vice Presidents of the Shenzhen Lawyers Association; He Zhijun, Council Member; Zhang Wenbo, Supervisor; and Liu Feng, Deputy Secretary-General, attended the opening ceremony, along with all participants of the 8th Young Lawyers Training Program. The ceremony was presided over by Wang Wei, Council Member of the Municipal Lawyers Association and Director of the Young Lawyers Work Committee.

Secretary Liu Linhong delivered a speech at the opening ceremony and introduced the history of Southwest University of Political Science and Law. She stated that over the years, the university has cultivated and provided over 200,000 legal professionals to society, with SWUPL students adhering to the school motto of "erudition, earnest practice, integrity, and respect for the law," striving on the front lines of legal construction. The cooperation between the Shenzhen Lawyers Association and Southwest University of Political Science and Law in conducting the 8th Young Lawyers Training Program is not only an affirmation of the university's legal education but also a high regard for the education and training of all participants. "Once you enter the gate of SWUPL, you are a member of SWUPL," she said, hoping that all participants would carry forward the SWUPL spirit of "working together, rigorous scholarship, caring for the world, and unremitting self-improvement," achieving success and gaining knowledge.

Vice President Wang Tengfeng delivered a mobilization speech for the trainees during their study in Chongqing, expressing gratitude to Southwest University of Political Science and Law for its emphasis and strong support for this training, and offered advice to the trainees: first, be humble—elites should not consider themselves elites, and talents should not be proud of their talents, approaching this study with a humble attitude; second, be diligent—the sea of learning has no bounds, and hard work is the boat, diligence the oar; third, maintain self-respect and self-love, cherish honor, carry forward the diligent and studious spirit of Shenzhen lawyers, and wished for the successful conclusion of this study.

Vice President Yang Xiao made four disciplinary requirements for the trainees: first, study hard and make progress every day; second, display the good image of Shenzhen lawyers; third, obey organizational management and actively participate in group activities; fourth, focus on learning ideas and thinking patterns, wishing the trainees a fruitful trip to Southwest University of Political Science and Law.

All trainees unanimously expressed that they will cherish the learning opportunity, enhance their professional skills, shoulder industry responsibilities, and give back to the industry's diligent cultivation through practical actions.

At 8 p.m., all trainees organized the debate competition of the eighth session of the Young Lawyers Training Program. The debate topics were "Whether the influence of online public opinion on judicial justice is more beneficial or harmful," "Whether to abandon or not abandon other businesses when engaging in criminal defense," and the cases "Whether Li Ze's actions constitute fraud or not" and "Whether Feng Mou's actions constitute operating a gambling establishment or not." All trainees were divided into eight groups and held four debates on the above topics. The debate competition was hosted by Mu Qing, the counselor of the eighth session, with judges including Vice President Yang Xiao and Wang Tengfeng, Directors He Zhijun and Wang Wei, and Deputy Secretary-General Liu Feng. The students actively prepared with limited spare time, presenting a fascinating and wonderful event that fully showcased the excellent demeanor of young lawyers in Shenzhen. Ultimately, Group 1 of the eighth session won the championship, and Zhang Ruili from Group 2 was awarded the best debater.

In the following week, teachers from the Chongqing court system, the judicial system, the legal profession, and Southwest University of Political Science and Law will deliver lectures to the trainees on topics such as "Key Points of Defense in Duty Crimes," "Difficult Issues in Understanding and Applying Illegal Fundraising Crimes," "Trial Thinking and Defense Techniques in Duty Crime Cases," "Practical Analysis of Evidence Review and Judgment in Commercial Crimes," and "The Role of Judicial Appraisal in Commercial Defense," providing all trainees with a feast of knowledge.
