[Guangdong Lawyers Association] The expanded meeting of the director of the Provincial Lawyers Association's Special Committee on Duty Crime Defense was held in Guangzhou
On June 14, 2019, the expanded meeting of the director of the Provincial Bar Association's Special Committee on Defense of Duty-related Crimes was held in Guangzhou. Wang Bo, Vice President of the Provincial Bar Association, attended the meeting, and Wang Tengfeng, Deputy Supervisor, was present as a non-voting participant. The meeting was attended by Zheng Cheng, Director of the Special Committee on Defense of Duty-related Crimes; Wu Bingbo, Zhou Zhuohao, and Xiao Wenqi, Deputy Directors; Wu Lixin, Secretary-General; and some committee members, totaling 10 people.
During the meeting, participants primarily discussed the specific preparatory arrangements for the "Seminar on Practical Issues in Defense of Duty-related Crimes Since the Implementation of the Supervision Law and Summit Forum Series" (tentative name) to be organized by the committee, including the theme, format, timing, organizing units, and requirements. After deliberation, it was preliminarily decided that the forum would be held in November of this year, aiming to conduct a comprehensive, extensive, and in-depth summary of defense work for duty-related crimes since the implementation of the Supervision Law. It was also determined that starting from July of this year, the committee would hold a monthly special activity on defense of duty-related crimes, covering topics such as defense techniques and professional risk prevention, criminal risk prevention, protection of involved property and defense of property penalties, guilty plea and effective communication skills with prosecutors, exclusion of illegal evidence and practical discussions on pre-trial conferences, and research on the interface between the Supervision Law and the Criminal Procedure Law in judicial practice. Additionally, the meeting organized a study of the Provincial Bar Association's relevant regulations on committee activity precautions, quantitative assessment scoring rules, and implementation opinions.
Vice President Wang Bo delivered a concluding speech. He stated that all committee members should unite sincerely, support and cooperate with each other, strengthen communication and contact, balance the relationship between association work and professional work, maintain passion and dedication to the profession, and jointly advance the committee's work. When organizing activities, the committee should align with and integrate into the overall and central work of the Provincial Bar Association, maintain a high perspective, reflect the committee's characteristics and highlights, demonstrate the expected professional standards and spiritual realm, and enhance the defense skills and capabilities of lawyers across the province in duty-related crimes.
Deputy Supervisor Wang Tengfeng offered supervisory opinions. He believed that the meeting was rich in content, substantial, and of great significance. The activity plan became more practical and feasible after discussion. He suggested that the committee should further strengthen promotional efforts, enhance communication and contact with the Supervisory Board and the Secretariat, improve working methods, and highlight key priorities.
