[Guangdong Lawyers Association] The expanded meeting of the director of the Provincial Lawyers Association's Special Committee on Duty Crime Defense was held in Guangzhou
On June 14, 2019, the enlarged meeting of the Directors of the Duty Crime Defense Committee of the Provincial Lawyers Association was held in Guangzhou. Wang Bo, Vice President of the Provincial Lawyers Association, attended the meeting, and Wang Tengfeng, Deputy Supervisor, attended as a non-voting participant. Zheng Cheng, Director of the Duty Crime Defense Committee, Wu Bingbo, Zhou Zhuohao, and Xiao Wenqi, Deputy Directors, Wu Lixin, Secretary-General, and some committee members, totaling 10 people, attended the meeting.
At the meeting, participants mainly discussed the specific preparations for the “Special Seminar on Duty Crime Defense Practice Since the Implementation of the Supervision Law & Summit Forum Series” (tentative name) planned by the Committee, including the theme, activity format, timing, organizing units, and activity requirements. After deliberation, the meeting preliminarily decided that the forum would be held in November of this year, with the aim of conducting a comprehensive, extensive, and in-depth review of duty crime defense work since the implementation of the Supervision Law. It was also determined that the Committee would hold a special duty crime defense activity once a month starting from July of this year, with topics including duty crime defense techniques and professional risk prevention, criminal risk prevention, protection of involved property and property penalty defense, guilty plea and effective communication techniques with prosecutors, exclusion of illegal evidence and practical discussion on pretrial conference procedures, and research on the interface between the Supervision Law and the Criminal Procedure Law in judicial practice. In addition, the meeting also organized the study of relevant regulations of the Provincial Lawyers Association regarding matters needing attention in committee activities, quantitative assessment scoring rules, and implementation opinions.
Vice President Wang Bo delivered a concluding speech. He stated that all committee members should unite sincerely, support and cooperate with each other, strengthen communication and contact, balance the relationship between association work and professional work, maintain passion and dedication to the profession, and jointly advance the committee's work. When organizing activities, the committee should align with and integrate into the overall and central work of the Provincial Bar Association, maintain a high perspective, reflect the committee's characteristics and highlights, demonstrate the expected professional standards and spiritual realm, and enhance the defense skills and capabilities of lawyers across the province in duty-related crimes.
Deputy Supervisor Wang Tengfeng offered supervisory opinions. He believed that the meeting was rich in content, substantial, and of great significance. The activity plan became more practical and feasible after discussion. He suggested that the committee should further strengthen promotional efforts, enhance communication and contact with the Supervisory Board and the Secretariat, improve working methods, and highlight key priorities.
