[Shenzhen Lawyers Association] Bringing Law to the Streets, Zhiming Law Firm Celebrates Its Fifth Anniversary
On May 18, 2005, the fifth anniversary of the founding of Guangdong Zhiming Law Firm and the official opening day of its Shanghai branch, nearly fifty lawyers and staff members of the firm gathered early in the morning at the plaza in front of the firm's Xincheng Building, setting up tables and chairs and hanging banners to carry out free legal consultation services directly for the public.
From 9 a.m. to 12 noon, during the approximately three-hour consultation event, Zhi Ming lawyers received over 100 inquiries from citizens on various legal issues. They provided careful and detailed answers to questions of public concern, including marital property, extramarital affairs and children’s property, creditor’s rights and debts, labor disputes, and real estate disputes. Throughout the event, citizens came in a continuous stream, creating a bustling and lively atmosphere with high levels of interest. During this time, Shenzhen TV Channel 3, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily, and Shenzhen Legal Daily all sent reporters to conduct on-site interviews and coverage, with a focus on typical cases from the consultations. Meanwhile, the media also conducted an exclusive interview with Director Wang Tengfeng regarding the purpose and significance of Zhi Ming Law Firm’s practice of holding free legal consultation services on every anniversary of its founding, the firm’s years of pro bono legal service activities including the handling of free consultations and legal document drafting, and the issues citizens should consider when selecting and hiring lawyers in the event of legal disputes.
