——Colliding ideas with cultural masters in the history of legal civilization

The first lecture of "ZhiMing Lecture Hall · Hall of Fame" hosted by Guangdong ZhiMing Law Firm was grandly held on the afternoon of March 20 at the firm. The lecture specially invited cultural scholar, renowned writer, and director Hu Yeqiu as the keynote speaker. All lawyers, trainee lawyers, and assistants of ZhiMing Law Firm, as well as about 60 lawyers from peer law firms such as Shenzhen Huashang, Weiran, Xuchen, Beijing Yifa (Shenzhen), and Beijing Yingke (Shenzhen), attended the lecture.

The lecture, themed "A Cultural Interpretation of the Rule of Law," spanned two and a half hours. Mr. Hu Yeqiu, with a broad historical perspective and a blend of Chinese and Western insights, eloquently began with the 120th anniversary of the Hundred Days' Reform and the rise and fall of national culture. He used the development of the rule of law across ancient and modern times, both in China and abroad, as the main thread to deeply analyze the significance of culture for a law-based society and national soft power. Throughout, he interwove numerous legal elements, such as the origins of ancient Chinese legal systems, the distinction between good and bad laws, the concepts of result justice and procedural justice in traditional Chinese legal thought, Western constitutional experiences, and the relationship between the rule of law and social moral justice. In conclusion, Mr. Hu Yeqiu fully affirmed the pivotal influence of lawyers in the process of building a law-based society, profoundly stating that "lawyers are like speed bumps on highways," playing a crucial role in safeguarding human rights and upholding democracy by "connecting public and private rights." Finally, Mr. Hu Yeqiu encouraged lawyers to strengthen cultural confidence and advance the realization of the Chinese Dream of the rule of law. The entire lecture was packed with valuable insights, and the audience listened intently, traveling through the history of Chinese and Western culture under the master's guidance. During the subsequent 40-minute interactive session, many audience members eagerly engaged in lively Q&A with Mr. Hu Yeqiu and shared their own thoughts. After the speech, fellow lawyers from other firms eagerly requested photos with Mr. Hu Yeqiu, expressing gratitude for the learning opportunity provided by the Zhiming Lecture Hall and highly praising the positive significance of the "Zhiming Lecture Hall · Hall of Fame."
