Case review
Recently, inspectors from the Jing'an District Market Supervision Administration conducted an on-site inspection at Shanghai Yinhe Industrial Co., Ltd.'s Wujiang Road store (MANNER COFFEE) and found that the store had poor environmental hygiene and failed to store food in accordance with regulations.
According to the report, food packaging waste and stickers were scattered on the floor of the food processing area at the store (MANNER COFFEE Wujiang Road Branch 1), with dirt on the floor and food bags for sale placed directly on the ground, posing a contamination risk. Additionally, seven boxes of the food ingredient "Meiji Milk" were stacked at room temperature on the ground outside the store, not stored at the required 2°C-6°C as per the product label. Law enforcement officers immediately ordered the store to close for cleaning, place the milk in a cold storage, and inspect its condition before opening.
The store's poor hygiene and failure to store food as required violate Article 33, Paragraph 1, Item (1) of the Food Safety Law of the People's Republic of China. The Jing'an District Market Supervision Administration has filed a case for investigation.

[1] The author's perspective
Since 2019, MANNER has been rapidly expanding its stores, maintaining this pace to date. From only 14 stores nationwide in January 2019 to about 65 in January 2020, and approximately 380 stores by February this year, the speed of MANNER's store expansion is evident. This rapid growth shows that coffee has gradually become a daily consumption in modern life, and MANNER has capitalized on consumer tastes and psychology to rise steadily.
Looking back at the earliest coffee shops, there were almost no large chain coffee stores in China at that time, making Starbucks the first to seize the opportunity. Over the years, although Starbucks remains visible on streets and alleys, frequent food safety issues and relatively high pricing have caused it to lose many customers. Today, a variety of coffee shops have sprung up like mushrooms. Luckin Coffee's rapid success in just a few years is largely due to its price advantage. This shows that while businesses continuously update their products, only by firmly controlling quality and strictly managing production costs can they achieve lasting success.
