Do not promote the trend of worshipping foreign things, and vow to follow the socialist path
In 1957, Chairman Mao clearly stated that the purpose of our education is to cultivate laborers who will build socialism.
In 1969, the State Council decided to rebuild Tiananmen, and some suggested inviting foreigners to undertake the project. Premier Zhou immediately stated, "We must not worship foreign things and fawn on foreign powers."
In 2016, at the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of Dr. Sun Yat-sen's birth, General Secretary Xi Jinping commented: Dr. Sun Yat-sen had a high degree of national self-respect and self-confidence, neither clinging to the past nor being conservative, neither worshipping foreign things nor fawning on foreign powers, emphasizing that "since Chinese society is different from that of Europe and America, the politics governing society are naturally different from those of Europe and America."
With the pace of China's reform and opening up, many foreign cultures have gradually permeated the thoughts of the Chinese people, from holiday celebrations to social and political matters. The lifestyle and mindset of the Chinese people are increasingly leaning towards Westernization, unaware that this is subtly harming the national psyche. In China's legal field, more and more law firms and lawyers are beginning to value participation in foreign ranking lists, such as Chambers and Legal 500. Many large enterprises, even state-owned ones, blindly follow suit, using these as a measure of the level of law firms and lawyers, and as a standard for hiring and evaluation. How can a foreign institution understand the legal system of our great China? And how can it judge the professional level of our legal workers? This is undoubtedly ridiculous. However, sadly, due to the blind pursuit of some people, coupled with deliberate hype by foreign capital, these things have gradually spread in our society. We must identify, alert, and resist this harmful phenomenon early, and never allow it to develop and expand freely. Otherwise, once this decadent and ridiculous Western dross infiltrates our legal system, it will harm our socialist legal values, which would be a great disaster for China's legal construction and social development.
In 1842, Wei Yuan proposed in "Illustrated Treatise on the Maritime Kingdoms" to "learn the advanced technologies of the barbarians to control them," with the aim of "controlling the barbarians," not forgetting one's roots. As the saying goes, the power of development, if held in our own hands, ensures survival; if held in others' hands, leads to ruin. Hundreds of years of history tell us that strengthening ourselves is paramount, and not forgetting our original intention is necessary. As descendants of the Yellow Emperor, we should have self-respect, self-love, self-reliance, and self-strengthening, resolutely uphold the dignity of the Chinese nation, persist in developing the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and strive for the prosperity and strength of our motherland!
