At around 13:43 on the 2nd, the Yangzhou Station Police of Nanjing Railway Public Security Bureau received a report from the staff of train G8253, stating that during the train's journey, a passenger smoked in the toilet of Car No. 3, triggering the smoke alarm and causing the train to slow down. They requested police intervention. Upon investigation, the passenger's surname is Li, and he has been smoking for 30 years. On the day of the incident, Li took the high-speed train from Lianyungang Guanyun to Shanghai for medical treatment. During the journey, he succumbed to his smoking craving and sneaked into the restroom to take a few puffs, triggering the smoke alarm in the restroom and causing the train to slow down. After being educated by the railway public security authorities, Li realized that his behavior had violated the law. He admitted to the illegal act of smoking on the high-speed train without reservation and conducted a deep self-reflection. Eventually, the railway public security authorities imposed an administrative detention of 5 days on Li in accordance with the law.

[1] The author's perspective
It has become very common for people in our country to travel by high-speed trains and EMUs, and the announcement on the train emphasizing a complete ban on smoking is also well-known. Since trains are equipped with smoke detectors, smoking can trigger the alarm and endanger train safety, causing the train to slow down or make an emergency stop. Therefore, smoking is not allowed anywhere on the train, including e-cigarettes. However, there are always smokers who cannot resist their cravings, thinking they can secretly take a puff or two without being noticed. It is only when the smoke detector really goes off that they feel regret, but by then it is too late.
Seemingly a puff or two of smoke, in fact, it endangers the safety of all passengers on the train. This selfish and self-serving behavior must be strictly punished and never tolerated. On the other hand, the train team's broadcast content can include relevant laws and regulations to enhance passengers' understanding of the consequences of smoking on the train, thereby achieving the purpose of setting an example and ensuring travel safety.
