According to hospital diagnosis, Ms. Cao suffered moderate to severe nerve deafness in her left ear, and the fetus she was carrying may also be at risk. Notice on the Situation Recently, some netizens posted a message online: "A woman in Zhuhai, Guangdong, was molested by a stranger and then beaten to the point of deafness." The relevant situation is hereby notified as follows:
 
After investigation, around 7:00 a.m. on May 5, 2023, suspect Xie Minmin (male, 57 years old) assaulted Cao Juanjuan (female, 28 years old) at a hotel in Sanzao Town, Jinwan District, Zhuhai, after drinking alcohol. The public security authorities brought both parties back to the police station for investigation and evidence collection on the same day. After the incident, Cao Juanjuan was diagnosed as pregnant by the hospital, and the beating caused damage to her left ear, requiring further injury assessment by a professional institution. Currently, the public security authorities have filed a case for investigation in accordance with the law, and suspect Xie Minmin has been criminally detained.

Whoever intentionally inflicts injury upon another person shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not more than three years, criminal detention or public surveillance.
Whoever commits the crime mentioned in the preceding paragraph, causing serious injury to another person, shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not less than three years but not more than ten years; if causing death or causing serious injury by particularly cruel means, resulting in severe disability, the offender shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not less than ten years, life imprisonment or death. Where this Law provides otherwise, such provisions shall prevail.

After molesting a woman, beating her to the point of deafness, and even potentially endangering the fetus, yet still showing no remorse, offering no compensation or apology—this is utterly lawless and extremely hateful!
 
What is puzzling is why, since the case was reported on May 5, the police only issued a notice late at night on the 21st after Mr. Chen exposed it to the media? Was it due to insufficient evidence, or a hope to downplay the matter? What were they doing during those two weeks? In my view, although daily police reports are numerous and complex, as the police trusted by the people and wielding power, they should act without delay in such situations, rather than advancing the case only under pressure from the media and netizens. Otherwise, how can they be worthy of the country and the people?
